What is it that we like about simplicity? Is it not that it’s close to us? It is attainable, like something that is nearly us. Or, to put it differently – an it that almost makes it into me. Thus, an imaginary community. Yes, if I dared, I would say si…

Two pictures from the Visit series (2007/8) by Filip Berendt. The idea is so simple and to the point that it is irritating. Berendt put an ad in a newspaper saying he wants to make installations in people’s homes out of the things he finds there and tak…
Wooster Hits Cape Town For Design Indaba
by on February 18, 2010 in Wooster Collective
In a few hours Sara and I head across the globe to Cape Town, South Africa to give a presentation next week at Design Indaba. We’re thrilled to be taking the stage with on of our favorite artists, Faith47.
Once we get set up, we hope to be blogging from S.A. If you’re in town for Design Indaba drop us a note as we most likely will be doing a meet-up next week for artists and fans. It should be a terrific time.
Over the next few days follow us on Twitter and Facebook while we’re there as we may be posting more often to these sites as well.
SABER by madsteez

SABER by madsteez from MADSTEEZ on Vimeo.
“SABER is a legend. A natural born predator, preying on anything and everything. His graffiti is vicious and angry, and a fucking pitbull fight to the death. He’s a hero, a catalyst for up-and-coming writers, signing blackbooks, shirts, hats, cellphones and even other guys’ girlfriend’s titties. SABER is a real fukin’ artist, bleeding the black blood of creativity which oozes violently from his veins. I spent a night with him, engulfed in his human spider-web better known as Echo Park, piled in an avalanche of art supplies and real life-threatening gang politics. I could feel SABER’s aura of unruly passion and I had an eerie feeling I was in the presence of art history greatness. With millions of fans all over the world, somehow he has been overlooked within the bullshit of the fine art world. He’s on the verge of popping that pretentious cheery and when he does, I can’t wait till he stomps all over the art worlds’ face. – madsteez

Seen On The Streets of Sydney: “Development” By Wing
by on February 17, 2010 in Wooster Collective

From Wing:
“Rebirth and renewal ongoing themes in my work. My favorite local 70′s ice skating rink was demolished and the “Man” is building units. I collected discarded wood panels, half full paint buckets and almost empty spray cans from the demolition site. All of the materials were found at the site. I created half human a half spirit figures in my studio then placed them back at the site. I wanted people to see that you can create something beautiful by recycling and not spending a cent. I hope it will inspire the developers others to recycle and reuse existing materials. I have titled the work”Development”. This reflects both the greed of capitalist people and a personal spiritual quest to find a happy medium between the two life styles.”
